Competition - 29th Mar 2008

2008-03-29 22:56:46

Pribina Cup 2008 is over. At least for two classes: CLUB and OPEN. These did not manage to complete 4 competition days. Even more, they have only two days valid. In contrary, we do not want to close everything yet. 15M class will probably take advantage of tomorrow’s weather forecast and complete their competition. Hopefully, into the successful end. But let’s not forerun the sequence of events. We met at the briefing at 9:00 while the front accompanied with rain was crossing over our head. Despite, flying was announced with high rate of probability but more precise information and task were given during the second 11:00 briefing. We could not see any major improvement here in Nitra but the very western part of Slovakia already reported clear sky. After midday all the gliders were ready on the grid. However, there happened to be a different development as we stayed in thick cloud layer and those better conditions did not want to reach us. In contrary, another front developed unpredictably and arrived here. After long time of waiting the director had no other chance than to cancel the day for all classes. As so, the grid was cleaned up within few minutes. The pilots with their team started the process of packing their planes into the trailers, arranging the administrative issues, collect all equipment, and prepare the luggage to be ready for going home. Those of our visitors who had the journey very long decided to leave immediately. Those who decided to stay, to leave tomorrow morning or even to fly the next day were hanging around, already hungry. The goulash smelled nicely and made us all gather in hangar. There, while eating, we recapitulated the results, applauded the best performers, shared the impressions orally as well as together with projected photos. Good-bye everybody. We were happy to see you here in Nitra that early this year and hope we meet us soon again!
