Competition - 2nd Apr 2024

2024-04-02 17:45:32

The day's flying has concluded, with all gliders accounted for. Rain showers posed a significant challenge today, resulting in some gliders outlanding. Others required engine assistance to return. Nonetheless, there were notable displays of bravery from pilots in both classes who managed to complete their tasks despite the adverse conditions. Despite the weather challenges, today stands as another valid competition day.

We currently have three gliders from the club class safely back home. While occasional rain showers persist on the airport, the weather has led to the first reported outlanding near Bystričany. However, the remaining gliders are navigating skillfully between the rain showers, ensuring their progress.

Once again, starts were efficiently completed within 40 minutes, ensuring a smooth beginning to the day's flying activities. However, there were some rain showers during the open class towing. Despite the weather, many gliders soared to heights of 1000 QNH, with several pilots even venturing further to explore and experience the majestic ridges of Tribeč.

The first start is confirmed for 12:30, with all gliders prepared and ready to take to the skies. A strong north wind is gusting, providing both a challenge and an opportunity for our pilots. Additionally, from the southwest, there are some cumulus clouds accompanied by sunshine, hinting at the possibility of thermals and exciting flying conditions. With everything set for an exhilarating day, pilots can look forward to putting their skills to the test in these dynamic weather conditions.

Following the briefing, the grid is now open, setting the stage for today's tasks which will take pilots along the northern ridges of Zobor, Tribeč, and even up to Vtáčnik, with the last leg stretching a bit down south. For the club class, 2 hours AAT tasks range between 112 and 324 kilometers, while the open class will fly between 142 and 315 kilometers. In addition to ridge flying, we're also expecting some thermals to provide additional lift. The first launch is anticipated at 12:30 from runway 33R, promising an exciting day ahead for all pilots.

The winds have spoken, and it's time for a change of scenery! Say goodbye to the familiar southern ridge and hello to the uncharted territories of the north, with the possibility of extending our flights towards Vtáčnik. Runway 33R will be in use, with the club class taking precedence before open. Due to some rain drizzle, there will not be grid before briefing. The briefing will be as usual at 10:00.

Get ready to explore new vistas in this exciting turn of events.
